Useful to developers.
Sustainable to operate.

Free-first

The pilot has no checkout, subscription, advertising, or metered AI integration. The intention is to keep it free while operating expenses remain manageable. If that changes, the approach and any limits will be explained before introducing a charge.

Getting started

Create an account, follow the verification email (check spam if needed), then sign in. Complete your target roles, location preferences, and experience evidence in the workspace. Save an opportunity and attach your resume, or use Connect an assistant to set up Claude or ChatGPT access. Review saved documents before applying.

What runs here

The app stores your profile, experience evidence, applications, progress, and versioned PDFs. Use your own assistant for discovery and document drafting. Connect Claude or ChatGPT from the workspace to read your evidence and save preparation work through a per-user OAuth connection. Your assistant subscription and its usage limits are separate. Disconnect from Career Desk to revoke tool access; this does not remove copies already in your Claude or ChatGPT conversations. Open-ended web searches run in your own assistant; Find new opportunities opens one with the request filled in.

You can also watch companies’ public Greenhouse, Lever, and Ashby job boards. Each morning Career Desk reads those public listings, adds new roles whose titles match your target roles as Discovered, and records what it checked in Discovery activity. This uses keyword matching, not AI, and reads only public job listings.

Private by design

Account sessions identify the owner of each record. Data queries and document downloads check ownership on the server. The public demo contains fictional information and sends no demo edits to the database. We do not sell application data or use it to train a model.

Data you choose to save

Store only the profile, notes, and PDFs you want to use in applications. Optional demographic information is not requested. Authentication uses a self-hosted library with account data in the application database. Vercel hosts the application, Neon stores account and workspace data, and Resend processes recipient email addresses and verification or recovery links to deliver account email. Sentry receives server error reports limited to the error type, a message with email addresses and tokens removed, code locations and the page path; never your profile, documents, applications or request contents. Encrypted backups are stored in a private GitHub repository and can be decrypted only with a key held offline by the maintainer.

Pilot limits and transparency

Each account is limited to 250 applications, 40 PDF versions, 2 MB per PDF, and 25 MB of documents. Documents share the Postgres database during the pilot, avoiding a second storage service. The public beta is capped at 50 accounts, with a shared 100 MiB PDF budget. Uploads pause when capacity is full; existing documents remain available. These are technical limits, not a claim that hosting has no cost. The workspace reports usage; provider invoices remain the source of truth for charges.

Export and recovery

Export your profile, pipeline, and PDFs from the workspace. Operator-assisted restoration validates the backup and restores it into an empty workspace without overwriting existing records. Email verification and one-time password-reset links help protect account access. Public beta registration is open, subject to the 50-account capacity limit.

Retention and deletion

Workspace data stays while your account is active. Request a one-time account deletion link from Account & data in your workspace. Confirmation permanently removes live account and workspace records. Provider recovery history may retain previous copies for six hours, and temporary recovery branches for up to one day. Encrypted nightly backups, stored privately outside the database provider, may retain previous copies for up to 30 days, including data from accounts deleted during that time. Backups are used only for disaster recovery; a deleted account is never restored from one without a newly verified request. Copies you export or share with Claude or ChatGPT are controlled separately.

Support and abuse reports

Contact Conor Brown for account support, privacy questions, or abuse reports. Do not email passwords, authentication links, or private application PDFs. Support is handled by the project maintainer and has no guaranteed response time.

Terms

Using Career Desk means agreeing to the Terms of use, which cover the beta status, your content, acceptable use and limits of liability.

Applications need review

Career Desk does not promise automatic submission to every hiring system. Employer logins, CAPTCHAs, legal agreements, and unsupported upload controls can require your involvement. Review factual claims and documents before sending an application.
